Jane Carrey Band

by Gali Firstenberg

The Jane Carrey Band‘s sound cannot be described in one word. Their song “Carnival” makes me think of a sad mime while “Cry Cry Cry” reminds me of Sheryl Crow. “City Lights” has blues and funk influences and ”Wishing and Waiting” sounds like a lullaby that might kill you.

It doesn’t come as a shock that their sound is so eclectic, as Jane is the daughter of comedic chameleon Jim Carrey, but if one thing is clear it’s that the young singer doesn’t need pull the “daughter of a Golden Globe-winning actor” card to make it. In fact, the one consistent quality from song to song is Jane’s smooth and strong vocals. The rest of the band (guitarist Daniel Sahagun, bassist Ian Sloane, and drummer Terry Goldberg) complement each other and Jane’s voice wonderfully.

The Jane Carrey Band’s mix of jazz, blues, folk, and rock make them easy to enjoy. They won’t quickly be making it on my Top 10 list but they definitely fit the bill for relaxing and enjoyable background music for, say, Thanksgiving dinner or a holiday party.
