Rothbury

Rothbury Music Festival in Rothbury, Michigan is a newer festival in its second year, but it has plenty of reasons to get familiar with it.

Reason number 1: String Cheese Incident.  Rothbury is their only scheduled performance this year and with the band being broken up the chances of seeing String Cheese again will be slim to none.

The Dead is another great reason to check out Rothbury.  Jerry of course won’t be there but I’m still looking forward to seeing such a legendary band.  Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan will also be there.  Willie was amazing at Summer Camp and people can say whatever they want about Dylan but I”m still excited.

Other kick ass shows …
Other guaranteed kick ass shows include: Umphreys McGee, Yonder Mountain String Band, Keller Williams, Zappa Plays Zappa,  STS9 and the Disco Biscuits (among others).

All that music makes the $250 ticket worth it to me, especially because it includes camping.  Nothing beats falling asleep outside while the sun is coming up after a night of concert hopping.

Rothbury runs July 2nd through the 5th.  I’m heading  to Grand Rapids July 1st to stay with my boyfriends family so we can be at the gates when they open at 8am July 2nd.  People will be there and lined up waiting for the gates to open so if you want a good camping spot you need to be right there with them.

If you do decide to check out this amazing festival you may want to consider buying a few things that I have found helpful at festivals.  Since Rothbury is trying to be ecofriendly they are only allowing one water bottle into the shows so we bought a camelback.  It holds two liters of water and you wear it like a back pack…awesome right?  A solar shower is also great.  I intend to take my baths in the lake on site but the solar shower is nice for washing hands and cooking utensils.  And if you are a light sleeper you will want ear plugs since there is 24/7 music.

So if you can get familiar with Rothbury.
